Donuts with Custard Cream & Nutella
These fluffy homemade donuts are filled with rich custard cream and creamy Nutella, making them an irresistible treat!
Ingredients
For the Donut Dough:
- 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour
 - ¼ cup (50g) sugar
 - 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
 - ¾ cup (180ml) warm milk
 - 2 eggs
 - ¼ cup (60g) butter, softened
 - ½ tsp salt
 - Vegetable oil (for frying)
 
For the Custard Cream Filling:
- 2 cups (500ml) milk
 - 4 egg yolks
 - ½ cup (100g) sugar
 - 3 tbsp cornstarch
 - 1 tsp vanilla extract
 - 1 tbsp butter
 
For the Nutella Filling:
- ½ cup Nutella (slightly warmed for easy piping)
 
For Coating:
- ½ cup sugar (for rolling)
 - ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
 
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
 - In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, and butter.
 - Knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. (If using a stand mixer, use the dough hook.)
 - Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
 
Step 2: Make the Custard Cream
- Heat milk in a saucepan until warm (not boiling).
 - In a bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until smooth.
 - Slowly add the warm milk while whisking. Return to the saucepan.
 - Cook on medium heat, stirring continuously, until thickened.
 - Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and butter. Let cool completely.
 
Step 3: Fry the Donuts
- Roll out dough to ½ inch thickness and cut into circles using a cookie cutter (about 3 inches wide).
 - Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
 - Heat oil to 350°F (175°C) and fry donuts for 1-2 minutes per side until golden brown.
 - Drain on paper towels and roll in sugar while warm.
 
Step 4: Fill the Donuts
- Using a piping bag, fill half the donuts with custard cream and the other half with Nutella.
 - Insert the piping nozzle into the side of each donut and squeeze until full.
 
Step 5: Serve & Enjoy!
- Serve fresh and warm! Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
